Purpose
The
purpose of the cheek
augmentation is it to give balance to an
originally less contoured
face or to enhance an
already existent cheek
structure with the
positioning of synthetic
implants to make the malar
and submalar structure of
the face more prominent.
Methods
and procedures
The
cheek
augmentation
operation takes from 1 to
1,5 hours. The
incisions for the
positioning of the implants
are placed inconspicuously
within the hairline, inside
the mouth, or inside the
lower eyelid (if combined
with Blepharoplasty),
depending upon the
individual case and facial
structure.
Anesthesia
General
or light sleep anesthesia
Hospital
stay
1
day
Recovery
Bruising
and swelling after operation
is normal. Bruising will
disappear within 4-6 days. A
remaining easy swelling may
persist for up to 1-2
months.
After
operation an easy degree of
numbness is normal which generally disappears
within 1-3 months. During
the first few week a support
will be worn during at night
to prevent shifting,
stabilize the operated
tissue and allow the
implants to heal in the
correct position. The
sutures are removed after
5-10 days upon the
technique/incision applied.
Regular activities can be
reassumed after 1 week.
Representative professional
tasks should possibly be
avoided to be scheduled for
a period of 3-4 weeks after
the operation, until the
swelling will completely
disappear.
Longevity
Permanent.
Notes
No
visible scars are made with
the oral incisions and the
healing is faster than with
the other techniques. However, the oral technique
has a higher risk of
infection in those patients
with poor dental hygiene and
smoking.
Easy
swelling may be apparent for
months and the final result
and the desired optimal
defined look may be become
evident only after that
time.
