Purpose
of face lift
Dermabrasion is a procedure of cosmetic dermatology: regeneration
and smoothing of the facial
skin, which brings a fresh,
younger appearance to the
face.
Methods
and procedures
By means of a small device (diamond milling),
the upper skin layer is
cleared away in a controlled
manner. Small wrinkles
disappear and irregularities
are smoothed away. Depending
upon the type of diamond
head, the physician achieves
a more or less substantial
result.
Anesthesia
Local anesthesia or alternatively artificial skin
under-cooling. For an
expanded face treatment,
general anesthesia is
necessary. Micro-Dermabrasion
does not require any anesthesia.
Hospital
stay
Ambulatory.
The treatment takes from a
half hour up to two hours.
Recovery
During the first days the skin is sensitive and rough. Light
swelling occurs. Skin
reddening persists for some
weeks. After approximately 2
weeks most patients resume
their
usual activities.
Important: Direct exposure
to the sun must be avoided
for one month. For a further
2 months, skin may be
exposed to the sun only if
protected by a sun block.
Make up may be applied after
1-2 weeks.
Longevity
The
skin appears younger. The
result is practically
permanent.
Note
Dermabrasion is best used on relatively light or very dark skin.
The intermediate skin shades
are less than ideal.
