Hair Transplantation

 Purpose

Hair Restoration. Surgical correction of hairless areas, or the enhancement of thinning areas within the scalp.

 Methods and procedures

Cold Steel Method: Surgery for hair transplantation (also: Hair Replacement) begins with the preparation, dissection and removal of the donor grafts at the back of the patient’s head. The donor grafts are smallest groups of hair follicles with 1-6 hair each (micro grafts with 1-3 hairs or mini grafts with 3-6 hairs). The grafts are then re-implanted into the hairless area.

Hair Transplantation with CO2-Laser: For the re-implantation of the grafts is used the CO2 Surgical Laser.

Tissue Engineering, [Hair Follicle Multiplication]: Hair Follicle multiplication [mistakenly also called cloning] is an exciting concept that is still in the early development stage, and a not yet scientifically accepted/approved procedure by the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery [ISHRS].

Ultracut Hair Transplantation: This technology comes from Coherent in California with the Ultracut System. Any risk of necrosis is avoided and the hairs are implanted in the natural position/inclination with this unique technology.  Read more on the Aesthetia Website.

Follicular Unit Extraction Transplantation is among the latest developments in the field of hair transplantation. The follicles are taken one by one directly from the back of the head and transplanted into the area to be treated. No donor strip has to be taken from the head and no scar is left, than with other methods. It is possible to selectively transplant bigger follicles with 3-5 hairs for a better covering or finer follicles of 1-3 hairs can be used on still hairy areas just to get back to the natural hair density.

Note:  "Follicular Unit Transplantation" is a more general term often used for different versions of hair transplantation and should not be confused with the "Follicular Unit EXTRACTION Hair Transplantation" !

 Anesthesia

Local anesthesia

 Hospital stay

Ambulatory. The patient can leave the hospital after 2-5 hours. With older methods with lower success rate usually a second session is required. With use of Ultracut or Follicular Unit Extraction Hair Transplantation usually for a medium sized area one session is sufficient.

    Healing duration

Post-operative medication for one day. Removal of the bandage after 2-3 days. Slight skin swelling and skin redness for several days. The slight incrustation at the treated area disappears within 10-14 days. The transplanted hair regenerates within 2-3 months. In the case of the follicular unit hair transplantation no bandage is applied. The patient is ready to leave for home on the day after the treatment.

    Longevity

of the Hair Restoration by means of Hair Transplant: The final result is always permanent. The durability is determined by the quality of the procedure as well by the quality of the transplanted hair.
