Purpose
Rejuvenation
of the skin, also called
Laser Skin Resurfacing or
Laser Skin Rejuvenation, is
achieved through the removal
of wrinkles and skin folds.
This includes the fine
wrinkles of the skin’s
surface and the more visible
wrinkles around the mouth or
the eyes.
Methods
and procedures
By
the procedure of a
removal of wrinkles by laser
high
frequency pulsating laser
apparatuses are used like
the
CO2-Laser
and
the
Erbium
Laser.
The devices emit very high light energy
onto the skin. Thanks to
extremely short light
pulses, the skin’s damaged
or wrinkled layers can be
removed in a very controlled
way. The depth precision
achieves values up to
1/1000mm. The Erbium Laser
delivers almost zero energy
in the form of heat to the
directly underlying skin
tissue, thereby eliminating
damage to surrounding
areas.
Anesthesia
Local
anesthesia of the skin areas
to be treated or twilight
sedation. General anesthesia
is used in case of full face
resurfacing.
Hospital
stay
Local
treatment: Ambulatory. Patients leave the same day.
Full
face resurfacing: General
anesthesia with one day of
hospital stay.
Recovery
During
the first days the skin is
irritated and red. Usually
the redness can be covered
with make up. In order to
prevent encrustations
particularly during the
first days, the treated skin
areas are cared for with
special moisturizers and
nutritive ointments. Only a
few days after the laser
skin treatments, a new,
smooth and rather sensitive
skin begins to form. It is
necessary to protect the
skin in these early days
with a sun block. During the
wintertime the use of a
moisturizer is recommended.
Result
& Longevity
The
successful Skin Rejuvenation
with Laser stimulates the
formation and regeneration
of the all- important
collagen layer inside the
skin tissue during the
following 4-6 months. The
skin is younger thereafter
according to medical
definition. The improvement
rate of the amount of
collagen contained in the
skin after the Laser Skin
Resurfacing amounts to a
good 60%, with some patients
achieving a 90% improvement.
It is advisable to prevent
the emergence of wrinkles
and skin folds as early as
possible (for instance
between the age of 30 and
40), since younger skin
responds better to laser
treatment.
The
process of skin aging will
be turned back for a period
of about ten years. A
repetition of the treatment
after an appropriate period
is possible.
Notes
Risks
are a possible formation of
erythemas (reddish inflamed
marks), or in temporary
over-pigmentation of the
concerned skin areas. In
very rare cases patients
might have allergic
reactions to the
moisturizers used.
