Nose Correction

 Purpose of a rhinoplasty

to create a naturally aesthetic nose, and to harmonize the profile of the nose with the rest of the face. A rhinoplasty can also improve one’s ability to breathe. Rhinoplasty can consist of a structuring (augmenting), reducing, or corrective nose refining surgery. The nose can be form-refined or shortened at its base. A bump can be removed, and an inclined nasal septum can be corrected. The procedure might involve not only changes in the appearance of the nose, but also in its structure and function. In the case of respiratory problems, the procedure can be aimed at improving the respiratory ability. One rhinoplasty can include both aesthetic and functional aspects.

 Methods and procedures

Complete Nose correction: Includes both the soft tissues and the hard tissues of the nose. The soft parts are refined and the bone and cartilage are remodeled and repositioned with a frontal and/or lateral osteotomy.

Nose correction of the soft tissue: Gentle correction or perfecting of the nose form. Modification only on the soft parts of the nose, mostly for refinement of the lower part of the nose and the nose tip and ala nasi.

Closed Rhinoplasy: For the closed rhinoplasty, the specialist operates through the nostrils and places the incisions inside the nose. Through the incision, the bones and cartilage inside the nose are sculpted in order to achieve the desired nose form. Although the closed rhinoplasty requires more skill, this method is preferred by the more experienced surgeon, because no external incision is required.

Open Rhinoplasty: The open rhinoplasty is performed with a small incision across the columella (which is the part of the nose between the nostrils, underneath the tip of the nose). The incision continues along the inside of the nose in order to lift the skin and allow the surgeon to see exactly the position and shape of the cartilage. The disadvantages: The initially visible external scar and the longer time required for surgery.

 Anesthesia

General anesthesia or local anesthesia, depending upon type and degree of the nose shape correction.

 Hospital stay

1 day after general anesthesia

    Recovery

After the surgery, a protective plaster cast and two nose plugs (rhinobyons) are used. The nose plugs are removed after 3 days, and the special nose plaster after 14-21 days. Swelling and bruises can be expected during the first 10-14 days after the surgery. Stitches are removed after 7 days.

    Longevity

The final result is permanent.

    Notes

After 6-10 months the final result stabilizes. Our patients have been very pleased with their results.
