Frequently asked questions
Face
Lift
Can
a Face Lift be performed as day surgery
?
A
classical Soft Lift, a SMAS Facelift, the
endoscopic Facelift and MAC Lift require at
least one overnight stay in the
hospital.
The
Aptos Lift is regularly carried out in local
anesthesia and ambulatory. In this case the
patient can leave the clinic on the same day
only few hours after the operation.
What
does an "SMAS Face Lift" mean ?
SMAS ( Sub Muscular Aponeurotic
System ) is the medical term for the muscle
layer present underneath the skin layer. While
the "Soft Lift” is limited to the
tightening of the skin layers, with the SMAS
Lift the muscle layer is lifted and refreshed
before the actual lift. Generally physicians
predict improved long-term results with the
SMAS Lift in contrast to the Soft Lift.
However, the decision about the type of lift
should be made in accordance with the personal
recommendation of the specialist who will
consider your individual requirements
concerning the final result. With the complete
SMAS Face and Neck Lift, both the SMAS layer
and the platysma layer on the neck are
refreshed/tightened.
Are
the sutures visible after the procedure and
for how long?
Subtle sutures are made at the
marginal areas of the face, so that they are
not directly visible. With Endoscopic
interventions (Endoscopic Forehead and Eyebrow Lift) usually only 3-5mm small cuts
within the hairline area are made, just large
enough to enable the surgeon to penetrate with
the endoscope into the problem area. These
interventions remain practically invisible.
But in most cases removing thin strips of skin
will be inevitable in order to obtain
satisfying results.
With
the Aptos Face Lift no external stitches are applied.
When
can I resume using makeup ?
For
a few days after the operation no makeup
should be used.
When
can I return to work ?
Normal
activities can be resumed after 2-3 weeks. It
is advisable however, to wait at least two
months if a perfect appearance is required.
After the Aptos Face Lift normal activities
can usually be resumed on the day after
the operation.
How
long do the effects of a face lift last?
The rejuvenating effect of a
face lift is almost indefinite. However, the
aging process is not stopped by the
intervention. Therefore many patients decide
after a period of 7-15 years to have a
second lift. The duration of a face lift and
the progress of aging are determined by many
factors such as sun exposure, genetic
predispositions, an increase or decrease in
weight and other factors.
The Aptos Lift can be repeated after 5/6
years.
Are
there alternatives to the classical face lift?
Alternative
methods to the surgical face lift are: removal
of wrinkles using injectable fillers, laser
skin rejuvenating treatments, chemical peel,
abrasive methods such as dermabrasion, and
Botox and similar applications. Whether the
results of these methods and their durability
correspond to the conceptions of the patient
should be determined in each individual case
during a personal consultation with the
specialist. A durable alternative to the
classical face lift is given with the Aptos
lift.
Can
implanted Aptos-threads be felt or
even disturb ?
The Aptos technique bases on the same
principle as the endoscopic face lift.
Relaxed tissue is tightened and
stabilized through appropriate
thread-techniques. While the advantage
of the endoscopic technique lies in
the longer lasting result, the
advantage of the Aptos technique lies
in the minimum invasive way of
operation, whereby the threads are
brought into the inner layer of the
skin. After the complete healing the
threads are generally no longer
noticeable, while they
will dissolve in time. There are two
basic types of Atpos-threads: the
resolvable one and the permanent one .
The permanent threads lead to a
longer lasting result.
Can
Aptos-threads be removed?
Implanted Aptos-threads can
problem-free be removed
or be replaced at any
time.
Can
Aptos-threads become visible?
Some thread lift patients with thin
skin which have been treated in other
clinics )not with Aesthetia) have
reported that the sutures became
visible under the skin shortly after
the procedure. This represents poor
techniques.
Less experienced surgeons may implant
the sutures into the skin (intradermal)
instead of behind the skin (subdermal).
What
does Liposuction of the face mean?
Some
patients have small areas of fat around the
face, mostly at the neck under the chin, and
in the folds between the bottom of the nose
and the corners of the mouth. This fat is
removed by liposuction with very small suction
cannulae. Incisions can be made in hidden
locations such as inside the nose, at the
corner of the mouth and under the chin.
Liposuction of the face is usually performed
at the same time as a face lift. The most
common areas to be treated are the neck and
chin area.
What
does "Point Lift" mean?
Point
Lift represents a marketing
term for a Mini-Aptos Lift.
With
the Aptos or Point-lift technology it is
possible to address either a single facial
area to be corrected
