Incisions

Breast aumentations - incisions

   Infra-mammary  The incision is placed

underneath the breast, a little above where the breast and rib cage meet, on the breast lobe. The incision in the crease enables an optimal view for the specialist during the operation, and thus a precise result. The disadvantage is in a relatively visible scar, if the incision does not heal properly. Optimally healed scars assume the hue of the surrounding skin over time, while scars not perfectly healed remain relatively visible in the breast fold, particularly when lying down or when no clothing (and no bra) is worn.

Peri-areolar Usually the incision runs along the

border of the lower part of the areola. This method is particularly suitable for avoiding lasting visible scars because the incision is camouflaged by the boundary of the areola. However, it must be considered that the incision along the border of areola requires a higher skill from the operating surgeon,  because the desired effect of an optimal

camouflage of the incision can be achieved  only if the specialist operates very precisely. If the incisions are imprecise the risk of the opposite effect exists: the areola forms the focal point of the chest and so visible scars can be particularly disturbing here.

Trans-axillary  This method can be suitable for round implants and for placement over the chest muscle although due to the distance the positioning of the implants is technically more difficult with this method, especially under the breast muscle. The advantage is in the inconspicuous placement of the scar under the arm. On the other hand the scar below the armpit is always a bit more visible than the other incisions when the arms are lifted as with sports and gymnastics, or with sun tanning.

Trans-umbilical The problem of the possibility of a lasting visible scar is solved by introducing the

implants over a small incision inside the navel. Unfortunately the advantages of the invisibility of the incisions are outweighed by the problematic feasibility of the operation. This method is today generally regarded as not perfected, and some specialists advise against it. The surgeon has little control when operating with this method and the rate of post-operational problems is much higher than with the other methods. The manufacturers of the implants sometimes refuse a warranty in the case of a trans-umbilical placement of the implants.
